About KitchenCleared
“Compliance should be straightforward. We built KitchenCleared so that any founder can navigate it.”
— Jacob, Founder
Why we built this
Opening a food business means navigating one of the most complex regulatory environments for small businesses in the UK. Premises licences, food registrations, fire safety, alcohol approvals, music licences, planning permissions — the list is long and the requirements are strict.
Whilst the guidance exists, it's scattered across hundreds of local councils, multiple government portals, and legal documents written in language that assumes you already know what you're looking for. Most founders piece it together slowly or pay thousands to solicitors.
KitchenCleared was built because small business owners deserve better tooling to deliver a clear, personalised, path from first idea to legally compliant opening day. Just the right information, in the right order.
The scale of the problem
40+
compliance steps the average food business must complete before opening
300+
local authorities, each with their own licensing policies
Unlimited
maximum fine for fire safety or health & safety breaches
£3,000+
typical solicitor cost for licensing guidance alone
What we believe
Generic compliance checklists are close to useless. A restaurant in Westminster with a late-night alcohol licence faces completely different requirements to a daytime café in Sunderland. Every checklist is specific to your business.
Compliance guidance has traditionally lived behind expensive solicitors and consultants. We believe the information itself should be easily accessible to any founder in language they can understand.
Small business owners are trying to build something great. Compliance shouldn't be the thing that slows them down or catches them out. Everything we build is designed to reduce that burden.
